While India in general and Goa in particular, especially the law and order infrastructure of the state is still reeling from the sensational murder of British teenager Scarlette Keeling Bollywood director Prabhakar Shukla is planning to make a film about the same.

The rape and murder in Goa this year became a global story, when the bruised and semi-naked body of Keeling, a 15-year-old girl who was holidaying in Goa with her family, was found on the Anjuna beach on Feb 18. An initial ruling of accidental death prompted her mother Fiona MacKeown to call for a second autopsy.

Her allegations of a nexus between drug barons, politicians and the police in Goa were denied by the local administration but highlighted lapses in investigation.

The second autopsy returned a verdict of rape and murder. A third post-mortem conducted in Britain showed that Indian doctors had removed Scarlette’s kidneys, stomach and uterus without informing Mackeown.

In an interview with The Times newspaper,Shukla said that he would start filming ‘Rave Party’ in Goa in July and had already approached Katrina Kaif, a Bollywood actress who was brought up in London, to play the teenager.

“The whole film is against drug abuse and the exploitation of tourists,” said Shukla, whose last production “Kahani Gudiya Ki” (Story of a Little Doll) was released in 2007. It was based on the true story of an Indian prisoner of war in Pakistan.

“Not just in India, but all around the world, real-life cinema is attracting curiosity. Film should be a mirror for society and people should get some inspiration or precaution from it,” said Shukla .

He had not yet contacted Scarlette’s mother, but said he hoped to meet her in Britain next month, adding: “I have great sympathy for her”.

Fiona MacKeown , however, said she had reservations about the proposed film, which she feared would portray Scarlette in a bad light, rather than her killers and the police who tried to cover their tracks.

“I’d like to know how they’re going to portray it, or I won’t approve it,” she told The Times. “I’m not sure about calling it ‘Rave Party’. Scarlette was not at a party. She was raped and murdered on the beach.”

Kareena Kapoor just added another feather in her plum hat and this time, it’s something big.

The news has it that after much anticipation, she has finally bagged the elusive opportunity of working with her dream actor, Aamir Khan!

And the film is Rajkumar Hirani’s forthcoming film.

The news is a big one for Kareena, as she has managed to steal the ever so elusive and perfectionist Aamir Khan from actresses like Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta and Vidya Balan.

There was some confusion in between, but last night she finally got her contract letter from Hirani’s office.

And she’s obviously delighted, because her last film with Aamir Khan which Mani Ratnam had planned, did not work out.

After the last of her ” Prostitute Trilogy” as Rani affectionately calls her role in Sawariya her forthcoming film is a fantasy family drama directed by Kunal Kohli. It requires her to do dangerous sequences flying in the air as an angel.

The film reportedly inspired by the classic drama Mary Poppins (1964) requires Rani’s character to play a nanny with magical powers who looks after the kids of Saif Ali Khan’s character, a business executive.

In it, Mary Poppins ,played by Julie Andrews, is a super-nanny who looks after the kids of a cold banker. She flies in with her umbrella whenever the children are in distress and proceeds to set things right for them using her extraordinary magical powers, before flying off again.

It was the flying around that she had to do as an angel that forced Rani to grapple with wires, harnesses and pulleys, equipment you would expect Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar to be more comfortable with.

“Rani underwent many rehearsals and trials for the stunt scenes. We shot on many outdoor locations in Mumbai, at Film City and inside the Yash Raj studios. At every place, we took utmost precaution. It could have been very dangerous if Rani had slipped. Thankfully, she pulled it off without retakes,” said Kohli .

Another challenge for Rani was that she had to wear the same delicate angel ensemble, designed by Manish Malhotra, throughout the film.

Amisha Patel, also in the film, faced her own challenges. She had to learn Scuba diving for underwater sequences between her and Saif, presumably the masala part of the film.

Rani Mukherjee is all set to do a moral about-turn.

After playing three different kinds of prostitutes in The Rising, Laga Chunari… and Saawariya Rani Mukherjee is set for a U-turn.

In her new under-production Yashraj film directed by Kunal Kohli Rani plays an angel who descends down to look after business-executive Saif Ali Khan’s children

Rani is all smiles about this role reversal. “You can call it my prostitute trilogy. I hope people will remember my three different portrayals of the Fallen Woman with affection.” Says Rani with her trademark smile.

Some of her critics have sniggered at Rani’s back-to-back roles as a prostitute in Laga Chunari Mein Daag and Saawariya.

Rani ,however, is unfazed. “What’s the big deal? An actor’s job is to play a variety of challenging roles. And I don’t think anyone has the right to question any actor for his choice of parts.”

How does it feel to be playing an angel?

“I can’t be happy doing just good-women or bad-women roles. Luckily for me I got to experiment”, says the actress who has always taken grave risks with her career.

“Right now I’m not allowed to talk about Kunal’s film. But yes, any opportunity to surprise yourself and the audience is welcome,” says Rani.

For now Rani is happy playing the angel in Kohli’s film. She’s currently shooting for the film with Saif Ali Khan in Bangkok.

Hit pair Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerjee will set the screen on fire once again in a Kunal Kohli-directed film. However, despite the film having started production a month ago, chhote nawab Saif has just started to make his presence felt on the sets.

“This yet-to-be-titled flick brings the Hum Tum team Saif, Rani and Kunal together. But Saif was not involved in a single shot in the initial days ‘coz of his changed appearance for another Yash Raj film he was shooting for viz Tashan.

In Tashan, he wears an unusual hairstyle with long sideburns and a double barrel moustache. He can’t alter this look for the Kunal Kohli film and get back to his Tashan look in a matter of days. So the makers had planned both the films in such a way that the schedules don’t clash and disturb continuity,” an insider revealed.

Now that Tashan is over, Chote Nawab is busy catching up on the shooting schedule for the new movie.

So now Rani’s Career and Personal Life are both on a High!!!

Kareena is having a great year. 2008 started off with a bang on the personal front with Saif and Kareena cementing their relationship further by deciding to tie the knot in the next 3-4 years. Her career as well as Saif’s is also on the rise with hits and good projects in hand.

And now good becomes better! If all goes well, Kareena Kapoor’s dream of working with Aamir Khan might just come true. Last week, she was approached by Rajkumar Hirani to act opposite Aamir in Idiots.

Kareena has always been very keen to work with Aamir and Rajkumar Hirani. Last time, Aamir and Bebo were to work in Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo but the film got scrapped. The wait , however seems to have come to an end .It now seems Kareena may just be working with Aamir. Last week, Kareena and Raju had a hush-hush meeting where he narrated her the script of Idiots. Kareena is very excited about it.

An untimely question cost Kajol this role. According to reliable sources , though Kajol is telling people that she hasn’t read Raju’s film and will consider the film after she reads the script. It’s a fact that when Raju found out that she had poked fun at him by asking Shah Rukh Khan who Hirani was and if he was any good as a director, he felt extremely insulted. He decided to take the script to Kareena who has evinced a keen interest but is trying to work out the dates.
Sources close to Kareena confirmed the meeting, but it’s premature to talk about it as yet. Kareena has loved the Munnabhai films and is very keen to work with Raju. Kareena is a busy actress who has signed more than five big films this year including Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakht Ishq opposite Akshay Kumar and has a huge deal with TV18. If the film with Aamir happens, it will be the cherry on the cake for Kareena.”

Idiots is based on Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone and deals with the story of three IIT students. Hirani has also approached John Abraham, Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan for other roles in the film.
